Introducing the PokéGantz

Gantz BRHello there! I’m finally going to play my copy of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire -after finishing both Bayonettas- and I felt like doing a Nuzlocke but there was the problem that I’d also like to complete the Pokédex this time, but I don’t want to restart because I get affectionate with my Pokémon and… Well, I made up PokéGantz.

Inspired by the Nuzlocke challenge and the Anime Gantz, PokéGantz is a rule system I made up to satisfy two needs:

– Try and concile those who want a Nuzlocke Style Challenge with those who want a file they can use for breeding/collecting

– Put even more responsibility and guilt on a poor trainer’s shoulders

The Rules

#1 – You can only capture the first Pokémon you meet in an area.

#2 – Legendaries can be exempted from Rule #1 but if they’re not the first PKMN you meet, you can’t use them in battle.

#3 – If your PKMN faint they’re dead, and they go in a box in your pc which you’ll rename Graveyard.

#4 – You have a single Resurrection Slot. If one of your PKMN dies you can put it in there. If there’s already a PKMN, the old one goes to Graveyard. When you win a Gym Battle, the PKMN in the slot automatically resurrects.

#5 – You can substitute the PKMN in the slot with one from Graveyard at any moment, but only the one in the slot at the moment you win a Gym battle gets resurrected.

#6 – If all your PKMN faint and you have no others in any box outside of Graveyard or your Res Slot, it’s Game Over.

#7 – You can sacrifice an alive PKMN you’ve captured at least before your last Gym Battle to resurrect a PKMN in your Graveyard. You can do this only once between each Gym Battle, and sacrificed PKMNs may never be resurrected.

If with Nuzlocke your guilt begins and ends with you letting one of your friends dyeing on you, the PokéGantz doesn’t let you go so easily. It gives you power, and choice, and responsibility. Your friends can come back to life, but only a few times. Which can increase, if you’re willing to do the unthinkable… The question is: who’s more worthy of your love? Or will it be the thirst for power guiding your hand?

It’s all up to you… And will post some updates for how my playtest goes on my Twitter.

Optional Rules –

– No Exp Share

– Fixed Battle

– If you already own the first PKMN you meet in an area, you can have a redo (I will use this, personally)

– A PKMN can only be resurrected once

About Meinos Kaen

Meinos Kaen is the secret author identity of one Simone Simeone, born and raised in Italy since anno domini 1988. You’ll never find a person with a harder accent to pin to a precise geographical location, be it Italian or English he’s speaking. God help us all if he ever manages to actually learn Japanese.
